Timing

What is time management and why is it important?

Time management includes the processes to manage the timely completion of the project. Time management is planning and organizing the division of time between different activities for the achievement of the final goals as well as controlling changes in the schedule.

Time has the least amount of flexibility – it passes no matter what happens on a project.

Project time planning is based on information:

  • list of activities – all activities necessary to achieve the project's goals;
  • activity dependency structure – for each activity, the preceding and following activities and their logical relationship are defined;
  • activity duration – the time required to perform the relevant activity;
  • resources for completing activities – the resources required to perform the relevant activity;

Various methods and tools can be used for the project time planning, such as: the list method, the line charts (for example, Gantt chart, Plannet chart), the network planning methods (for example, ADM; PDM).
