Will AI eliminate some jobs or will we have to adapt to use AI as a tool?

Hello Carlos,

In my opinion, we need to adapt to the new tecnologies, in this case AI so we can continue to have jobs and create new ones.

Thank you,
João Lopes

Hello João

I think we have to look at AI as a tool and an asset for our work. I personally use it a lot.
And it has made my job easier.

Thanks

Hi Carlos and João,
about the extinction of jobs due to the growth of AI, just like in all areas, when something new appears, there are modifications, adaptations, destruction, creation of new perspectives, new paradigms, new jobs,... For example, if we look at our past, we see this happening repeatedly. I think it is our duty to adapt if we want to continue evolving. AI is a valuable tool for our evolution, so we should not discard it; instead, we should strive to make it better.

Being a bit obvious, no job will be completely replaced by AI, however, many people working in such jobs will have to rethink their careers. Translators, content creators, proofreaders, etc. All those people will definitely need either to find their niche (like official translations) or will completely be replaced by AI. However there are other jobs like mechanics etc which will not be easily replaced by AI, the reason being the cost/benefit of developing machines to replace small tasks which generate lower revenues.

I agree with João Veríssimo. Actually my question about IA was about for these theme and I had a good chat with ChatGPT and at the end it agreed with my view.

I shared that chat on the forum Essay Submission for lession 1. Fell free to check it.

Hello Carlos.
AI will not eliminate jobs. At most will replace some funtions and activities but no the job itself. EG: it can make you more productive in report generation but they will still need your final approval. On the other hand, that person probably needs some training on how to do the appropiate prompting to get the most accirate solutions. That person will probably find someone or some institution for that training which means new jobs will be created. So to answer your question, it's 50/50: we have to adapt to use AI as a tool for the existing jobs and i believe has quicker and faster answers and prototypes are available, new jobs will appear that didn't make sense before.

AI is likely to both eliminate some jobs and require us to adapt to use AI as a tool. The impact of AI on the job market can be seen through several lenses.

The competition to achieve fully autonomous vehicles is fierce and has far-reaching implications. A significant portion of the global workforce is dedicated to the transportation of goods and people. As we move closer to realizing fully autonomous vehicles, many jobs in this sector are at risk. Truck drivers, delivery personnel, and ride-share drivers, among others, may find their roles becoming obsolete.

However, this technological shift will also demand adaptation. New job opportunities will emerge, particularly in areas related to AI maintenance, development, and oversight. Workers will need to develop new skills to effectively collaborate with AI systems, emphasizing technical know-how and soft skills like critical thinking and problem-solving.

Moreover, AI is set to transform many roles rather than merely eliminate them. For instance, in logistics, AI can optimize routes and improve efficiency, which means workers in these fields will need to adapt by learning to operate and manage these advanced systems.

Hello.
I think we have to work with AI as a tool to help us in our jobs. We have to learn how to use it and don't let AI win humans.
