Module Descriptor Dynamic security refers to the individual’s ability to maintain safety and order through preventive and relational security practices. This module focuses on the capacity to apply dynamic security adaptively, translating preventive principles into practice under constrained conditions. It enables staff to make informed professional trade-offs, take responsibility for situational decisions, and maintain safety and legitimacy despite limited resources.
Target Knowledge (What you will learn)
  • The three interconnected concepts of security (static, procedural, and dynamic).
  • Nordic prison model principles, including normalisation, proportionality, and early prevention.• Institutional risk-assessment models and tools.
  • How capacity pressure and staff shortages impact relational work and preventive security.

  • Balancing control and support in daily interactions with prisoners.
  • Observing and identifying early signs of risk or changes in behaviour.
  • Prioritising key preventive actions when under operational pressure.

By the end of this module, learners will be able to:

  1. Apply dynamic security principles through continuous observation and structured interaction exercises.
  2. Identify behavioural and environmental risk indicators in simulated institutional scenarios.
  3. Implement preventive actions aligned with established safety procedures.
Advanced Learning Outcomes (EQF Level 6)

More experienced practitioners will additionally be able to:

  1. Analyse situational risk factors in complex operational cases and determine proportionate preventive measures.
  2. Integrate relationship-based monitoring strategies into daily security practices.
Assessment & Credentialing
  • Methods: Reflective log (30%), group project (40%), and a case study assessment (30%).
  • Recognition: Successful completion leads to the award of a digital Micro-Credential e-badge, validating the acquired competencies across European standards.
