This module strengthens the capacity of professionals working in correctional settings to apply dynamic security as a preventive, relational and adaptive approach to maintaining safety and order – including when staffing pressure, high workload and reduced continuity limit time for relational work.
Learning outcomes
After the module you will be able to:
- analyse how workforce, capacity pressure and reduced continuity affect preventive and relational security in custodial settings;
- apply dynamic security principles to prioritise preventive actions when staff presence, time and relational continuity are limited;
- identify early signs of risk, escalation or relational breakdown during daily interaction with people deprived of liberty;
- evaluate situation-based trade-offs between presence, dialogue, procedural control and static security measures while maintaining legitimacy;
- plan a coordinated team response that supports preventive practice, relational continuity and emotional resilience during sustained operational pressure.
Structure and workload
Nine chapters, from the module overview to further resources, including two virtual simulations. Total module time: 9 hours – face-to-face in the local CoVE 4 h, online synchronous with trainers 3 h, asynchronous Moodle learning 2 h. EQF levels 5 and 6.
Assessment
Knowledge test, four assessment tasks and a reflection journal, assessed with rubrics. PROMOTE issues one micro-credential per module based on demonstrated learning outcomes.
